ELOY, ARIZONA. FEBRUARY 11, 2008-Rock stars. Political rock stars, that is, like what they see and hear about the proposed Decades Music Theme Park.
Senate President Tim Bee, Speaker of the House Jim Weiers and Senate Majority Leader Thayer Verschoor are prime sponsors of Senate Bill 1450 which would create a “regional attraction district,” providing Decades Music Theme Park with a key financing tool necessary to build the major attraction for Arizonans and tourists alike.
Joining President Bee and Leader Verschoor in sponsoring the bill in the Senate are Senate Pro Tem Robert Blendu, Minority Whip Rebecca Rios, Majority Whip John Huppenthal and Senator Linda Gray.
On the House side, Majority Whip John McComish, Minority Whip Steve Gallardo, Representatives Kirk Adams, Chad Campbell, Doug Clark, Rich Crandall, Cloves Campbell, Barbara McGuire, Marian McClure, John Nelson, Michele Reagan, Pete Rios and Bob Stump join Speaker Weiers in sponsoring the bill.
Senator Rios and Representatives McGuire and Rios are District 23’s delegation - meaning all three members of the legislative district where Decades is to be located are sponsors of the bill.
Decades will be a music-themed park – featuring districts that represent each decade of rock music – the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s in its first phase – with interactive thrill rides, live music and other attractions where audience members can step back in time to the sights and sounds of each era.
If and when Decades becomes a reality, Peter Alexander has agreed to become its CEO. He’s the former Director of Project Management for EPCOT Center and Tokyo Disney; Director of Planning and Development for Universal Studios Hollywood and Executive Producer of Six Flags Theme Parks and Universal Studios Florida.
A recent study by Elliot D. Pollack & Associates pegs Decades’ ten-year economic impact at approximately $270 million for the state of Arizona.
The bill is expected to be heard on February 20th in the Senate Commerce & Economic Development Committee.
Decades Music Theme Park is a proposed 300-acre, $800 million project east of Interstate 10 in Eloy, Arizona. The $500 million Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is under construction and scheduled to open in May, 2008.
