50’s Land
50’s Land will be influenced by the look and feel of the old Palisades
Park of the New Jersey Boardwalk. It will feature artist impersonators
such as Elvis, the Big Bopper, Buddy Holly and others that got their
start in this decade. All park personnel serving this Land will be
uniformed in 50’s garb, such as poodle skirts, white tee-shirts
and cuffed jeans. They will remain in character and reflect an attitude
of the
50’s rock lifestyle and pop culture in their manner as well as their
dress.
60’s Land
60’s Land will sport a backdrop of the 1960’s album and period art
and include the influence of the British rock bands and the advent
of Motown. This decade marked the transition of the rock generation
from innocence into an awakening of political and social awareness
and responsibility. It was the decade of high ideals and struggle
for generational identity. The art and music of this decade reflected
this transition and the coming of age of the first rockers. All park
personnel serving this Land will be
uniformed in 60’s garb suited to their respective themed attraction
station. They will remain the character and reflect an attitude of
the 60’s rock lifestyle and pop culture in their manner as well as
their dress. The Haight-Ashbury District is part of 60’s Land and will
be a throwback to the summer of love. Hippies will abound and groove
in the peaceful recreation of this famous street corner. There will
be live street music, shops of the area in that era, and a small outdoor
venue that will recreate the
Hollywood Bowl.
70’s Land
The 70’s continued the trend of the 60’s and gave birth to
new genres of rock that reflected the diverse cultural and
socio-economic lifestyles that had long been held silent.
The repression of expression was dissolved away as rock
music hit on the taboos and exposed friendly pockets
of new acceptable social norms where people of similar
tastes, backgrounds and thinking could come together and
feel less alone. As such, the genres of rock in this decade
began to splinter and rock music expanded into a new level
of social consciousness. As with all DECADES, workers in
this decade will wear the attire appropriate for their station
within the decade.
80’s Land
The 80’s rang in the Video Age and brought the art of rock
into our homes in a way that allowed the movement to build
on the foundation laid down by the previous DECADES.
This decade saw an explosion of rock; styles and genres
of this growing popular artistic movement were born and
flourished like never before. Even the pop culture media
guides could not hold back underground movement after
underground movement that steadily infiltrated the urban
and suburban households alike. This decade will pay
homage to as many of these popular and underground
genres as possible. Workers will be themed for their special
duty within the land and maintain the character of their
period and genre.
90’s Land
While we are almost through the first decade of the New
Millennium, the 1990’s yardstick bands and artists to be
memorialized in the park are still being analyzed. This
decade’s Land will likely be an add-on to the park in a
second phase of growth. As the future reveals itself in
future decades, so, too, will DECADES unveil new lands
and exhibits.
