Since R&B and Hip-Hop are such strong and related genres to the rock movement, we believe that these special genres of the pop culture warrant their own place in the historical manifestation of the park. The district will project and represent the urban roots from where this music was originated. We hope to be able to capture the essence of these major music movements and provide an authentic environment that will not only entertain but educate the audience to the history and the struggle of urban youth in America.
The Kids Are Alright
DECADES’ vision is aligned with
a family-friendly theme. This area of the park will consist
of child rides and attractions suitable for families with
children under 10 years of age. It will also be the home
of the video gaming district. We hope to arrange for the
vintage characters of Nintendo to be the entertainers and
characters for this district. Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong
and the rest will walk the park and reside in this area. A
gaming venue will host tournament-style play and daily
competitions in an indoor facility that will be built for
gamers by gamers.
The Black Water District
This is the central retail,
restaurant and club district. It will be designed much like
the San Antonio River Walk complete with a river canal and
gondola boats. Walking Bridges will arch over the canal
which will join the two lakes in the park. It will encompass
several streets and lanes that will lead to themed areas
such as China Grove, the New Orleans French Quarter and
the Sunset Strip. This will be an area alive with outdoor
musicians, live music restaurants, themed hotels and retail
shops. It is hoped that restaurant concepts such as Alice
Cooperstown, House of Blues, the KISS Coffehouse and others will line the streets. Small themed hotels
with approximately 150 rooms will be at the edge of the
district. The main members-only DECADES Clubhouse will
also reside within this district.
DECADES' will feature a convertible concert venue that can feature musical performances both large and small while still giving the performers and audience the feeling they are part of a "packed house" experience.
Spirit of the Radio Concert Hall
Modeled from the Rush album cover art “Spirit of the
Radio”, this venue will be a more intimate indoor music theater. It will include 2,000 seats and serve as a regular
space for tribute band performances, battle of the band
competitions, a “New Artists’ Exposure Series” and bands
with smaller audience draws. We also hope to lure the VH1
Music Awards to host their annual event at this site on a
rotating basis.
Compton Terrace
To accommodate larger audiences and utilize the beautiful evening weather in Arizona, this 7,000-seat outdoor amphitheater is planned
to be modeled after the former Compton Terrace at Legend City and Firebird Raceway
off of I-10. We hope to preserve the sign that still sits on
the old site and bring it into the park as an historic marker
along the Grand Funk Railroad and as signage for the planned venue.
