When is the district going to open?
Although there is still much to do with land planning & zoning, site planning, architectural & engineering, permitting, and construction. Our target opening is the Fall of 2013. Anticipated groundbreaking will be in 2010.
Phoenix and Tucson are the largest metropolitan areas in the U.S. without a theme park and Eloy happens to be located right in the middle; the future epicenter of the Sun Corridor. Eloy has ample space for the phased growth of a theme park and associated hotel and retail districts. Eloy is also in close proximity to where Interstate 10 and Interstate 8 converge thereby making the distrct only a five hour drive from San Diego and a six hour drive from Los Angeles. The fantastic weather in Eloy (340 days of sunshine a year) allows for year-round operations.
Don't they know that it gets REALLY hot in Eloy during the summer?
Yes, we know about the hot weather in Arizona during the summer months. We also know that some people do not agree with our Heat Index comparison between Eloy and Orlando where the “apparent temperature” is virtually the same during the summer when humidity is factored in.
Anyone who has spent time in Orlando during the summer can attest to the unbearable heat & humidity and the intense rains yet the summer continues to be the busiest time of year for the Orlando theme parks.
Anyone who has spent time in Arizona during the summer can also attest to the intense heat when directly exposed to the sun. But those same people will tell you that misters, wind, and shade reduces the heat significantly through a process called evaporative cooling. Evaporative cooling is the process of combining water evaporation with a simple, reliable air-moving system. Fresh outside air is pulled through moist pads where it is cooled by evaporation and circulated through a house or building by a large blower. As this happens, the temperature of the outside air can be lowered as much as 30 degrees.
Great care and consideration will be given to architectural design to shade and shelter patrons. Orientation of structures, shading canopies, misting and climate controlled environments will be combined with water ride attractions, indoor venues, and cooling features to provide visitors with ample opportunity to escape the heat during the hot summer months.
What is happening with the legislation that was trying to get passed in Arizona?
After a lengthy and arduous process, we are pleased to report that Governor Janet Napolitano signed Senate Bill 1450 into law on June 27, 2008. The Bill allows for the formation of a regional attraction district (RAD) to be formed in a city with a population of 10,000-20,000 in a county with a population of 300,000-400,000 within the State of Arizona. The RAD is authorized to issue up to $750M in municipal revenue bonds to finance the regional attraction venue within the RAD and levy up to a 10% sales tax on all transactions that take place within the RAD.
