PHOENIX, ARIZONA. JUNE 24, 2008-By a 17-9 vote, Senate Bill1450 passed through the Arizona State Senate for a second time today and with the hoped-for stroke of Governor Napolitano's pen could bring Arizona its first major theme park: Decades Music Theme Park.
The legislation had previously passed the State Senate by a 17-11 vote earlier this year. It required Senate passage again after being amended in the State House of Representatives where it was voted out by a 39-17 margin last month.
SB1450 would create a "regional attraction district," facilitating construction of Decades Music Theme Park. Decades would be located in Eloy, chosen for its access to the Phoenix, Tucson and Southern California markets (via I-10 or I-8) as well as the availability of land.
Decades Music Theme Park will be set up in districts that represent the various decades of rock: the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's for starters. A hotel and shopping district are also planned for the site.
According to a study by Elliot Pollack & Associates, Decades Music Theme Park will create an economic output of nearly $447.1 million annually. The Pollack study also estimates that $267.6 million in gross state tax revenue will be collected over ten years from construction and operations at Decades.
The City of Eloy would see gross tax proceeds approximating $180 million over the same period.
A rock theme park recently opened in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Industry leaders in the fields of theme park development, rock music, concert promotion, radio and electric guitars have all voiced their support for Decades Music Theme Park. Additionally, thousands of people from around the country (and from various parts of the world) have shown their support by writing to legislators telling them of their intention to visit Arizona if Decades is built.
